Go The DIY Route
Is your kitty ready for a new cat bed? Does your dog destroy his toys faster than you can replace them? Consider making your furry pal’s things. You can make an old stepladder into a cat tower by adding planks to the steps, widening out the boards, and wrapping it in carpet or sisal rope. You can also make Fluffy a cute pet tent out of a tee shirt and a wire hangar. As for Fido, you can make him a rope toy by cutting up an old tee shirt and braiding the strips together. Look online for more great DIY ideas.
Shop Wisely
When you go shopping for your four-legged pal, get into the habit of reading labels. When possible, opt for brands that use eco-friendly materials and/or sustainable practices. Try to avoid items made overseas. Pet products are not carefully regulated in all countries, so some products could be unsafe. Ask your vet for recommendations.
Fight Pet Overpopulation
One of the best things you can do to fight pet overpopulation is to make sure that your four-legged pal has been spayed or neutered. There are already far too many pets in desperate need of loving homes!
Reduce Plastic Use
Bring a reusable grocery bag into the pet store with you, instead of getting a plastic bag from the cashier. This is a perfect example of a small step that can make a big difference!
Donate Unused Items
Is Fluffy is ignoring that expensive cat tower you bought her? Consider giving it to an animal welfare group! This is another great way to make your pet care regimen more eco-friendly.
Clothes
Does your canine pal need clothes in winter? If you like to sew, why not make Fido’s doggy sweaters and jackets? You can make your pooch some super cute outfits out of old clothes!
