DIY Holiday Gifts for Cats

With the holiday season approaching fast, many people are already picking out gifts for their loved ones. Fluffy is an important part of the family, but you don’t have to break the bank getting her gifts. Read on as a London, ON vet lists some great gifts that you can make for your feline buddy.

You may have noticed that Fluffy is rather drowsy. Beds are a great gift for kitties! You can use a wicker basket, end table, hatbox, or a hard shell suitcase. Remove the doors or prop open the lid, and then add paint or varnish. Then, just put soft bedding inside. Voila!

Kitty Tent

Our feline pals love small, enclosed places. You can make Fluffy a little pet tent out of a tee shirt and wire hangars in just a few minutes. Look online for step-by-step instructions.

Cat Tower

Cat towers are actually very beneficial to kitties. They keep Fluffy active by encouraging her to jump and climb. They also offer your furball a scratching post, jungle gym, and a great vantage point from which she can observe her kingdom and humans. To start, get an old stepladder. You can also use a storage rack or bookshelf. Add some smooth boards to make kitty lounging spots, and then wrap the whole piece in carpet or sisal rope. Of course, if you want to go all-out, you can make one from scratch, using PVC pipe, lumber, or even a thick branch!

Window Seat

Birdwatching is one of Fluffy’s favorite ways to relax after a hard day of doing pretty much nothing. To make a window seat for your kitty, add a smooth board to your windowsill. You can attach a pet bed or a wicker basket for extra purrs.

Cat Grass Mat

Cats are much safer staying indoors. However, you can give your furball a taste of nature. Plant some cat grass seeds in a shallow storage tote or an old, clean litterbox. (Tip: cat grass is actually the same thing as wheatgrass.) Let it grow for a few weeks. Fluffy will have her own private lawn to relax on! You can also plant some cat grass in a small pot for your kitty to nibble on.
