Things to Do With Your Dog This Summer

Summer is just around the corner. Do you have big plans for the next few months? We know what some of our canine patients have on their agendas. Read on as a local London, ON vet lists some things to do with your dog this summer.

Play

Summer may very well be Fido’s favorite time of year. After all, he gets to run and play in the sun, and sniff all sorts of grass and plants. Get outdoors with your pet, and enjoy some fresh air together. Playing Fetch with your furry best friend will be great for both of you!

Learn Something New

Dogs are very smart, and they often actually enjoy learning new things. Make sure that your pooch knows basic obedience commands, such as Sit, Stay, Come, Heel, and Lay Down. Once Fido has those down, show him some cute tricks, or move on to advanced training.

Explore

If there is one thing we can say about our canine companions, it’s that they love to explore. Indulge Fido’s sense of adventure by taking him to a park or exploring a new trail with him. Remember to bring plenty of water along! Also, take care not to overexert your furry friend.

Get Away

Ontario is full of beautiful nooks and crannies to explore. Pull up a list of local spots, and head out on a one-tank trip with your dog. This may end up being one of the highlights of your summer!

Enjoy A Cold Treat

Frozen snacks are definitely one of our favorite things about summer. Buy or make your furry buddy some doggy ice cream. Or, make pupsicles for Fido by pouring sodium-free broth or water over crushed up doggy biscuits or chew sticks.

Take Some Photos

Summer’s golden light is ideal for taking photos. While candid shots are always cute, this is a perfect time to experiment with more professional pics of your pup. Schedule Fido’s photo shoot for sunrise or sunset, when the light is best.

Relax

One wonderful thing about pets is the fact that they remind us to relax and just enjoy life’s smaller moments. Carve out some down time for yourself, and spend a rainy day binging your favorite TV show with your four-legged friend.
